Power Company Stock Exchange Plan Before SEC
The Alabama Power Co seeks SEC approval to offer holders of 355,876 shares of old preferred stock the right to exchange for new 7 420 percent preferred. Each old $7 share would be exchanged for one new share plus $10 cash, with adjustments for $5 and $6 issues. Up to 300,000 new shares may be issued, with rejection rights if deposits fall below 300,000. Redemption bases are $11.50 for $7 and $10.50 for $5 and $6 plus dividends. A $76 million bank loan was proposed to fund redemption and treasury retooling for debt payments due December 31 1965.

Emergency Housing Facilities Urged For Needs
ATLANTA AP Congres to 7 day had under consideration a proposal from eight Southern States that emergency housing facilities be distributed according to actual needs instead of population figures. State officials argued current policy favors population and hurts underserved rural areas. They pressed for more funds, noting 19 million dollars already allocated is spent. Communities already receiving aid will see no more now while untouched areas will get first pick of any remaining money.
