Better Credit and Cheap Labor Shape Farmer Outlook
The Department of Agriculture forecasts improved marketing credit conditions and slightly lower wages for labor in 1930, but warns of possible overproduction. It projects lessened demand through summer and fall vs 1929, with more favorable mortgage financing and stable fertilizer and machinery prices. Wheat may hold at 1929 levels unless weather or acreage changes. Cotton acreage is expected to rise, dairy herds should be culled to curb herd growth, and butter prices are not as bad as they seem.
