County Agent and Three Men Indicted on Seed Loan Frauds

Federal grand jury returned indictments in Dothan charging County Agent J H Witherington and three others with seed loan fraud. Bonds set at five thousand dollars each. Espy, Eapy and McArthur defendants appear for plea on March 7 in federal court. Others connected included Willis McArthur, Leo Espy, and A A Espy. Witnesses and prosecutors from Montgomery and Washington DC conduct the case.

William Wrigley Jr Dies in Arizona

William Wrigley Jr., 70, owner of the Chicago Cubs and noted financier, died in his winter home in Phoenix after a heart attack followed by acute indigestion. The death, announced by secretary R A Kirkman, occurred early today as Mrs. Wrigley and two children watched at his bedside.

Man Poisoned Is In Hospital Here

Harvey Searcy former circuit court clerk is in Dothan hospital today in serious condition from poison taken by mistake. He reportedly swallowed a large dose at his home around 1 a m. Hospital attendants said he remained in critical condition but expected to recover. he was somewhat improved by afternoon.

Hookworm Tests Near Completion in County Schools

Health office officials report tests for hookworm nearly finished in all county schools except Ashford and two elementary schools in Dothan. Many pupils are now receiving weekly treatment for two weeks, with continuation if needed to cure the disease.

E. G. Collins Houston county tax assessor and Mr and Mrs John Griffin will leave Hot Springs Arkansas tomorrow for Dothan after spending three weeks there officials in the assessor s office said today.

Fowler vindicated in federal case against still charges

Tom Fowler a Knoxville farmer defended himself in federal court after being charged with owning a still. He testified and cross examined witnesses and, after a 15 minute deliberation, the jury found him not guilty. He argued the path from his home to the still was merely a cow path used for 15 years.

Mrs. J. J. Flowers leads a penny drive to aid underprivileged children, urging residents to drop coins into penny cans through March 15. Assault charges against 2 girls in Carter shooting

Caro Lyn and Elizabeth Bull, sisters from Pulaski Tennessee, were charged with assault with intent to murder in a warrant sworn by J J Solomon uncle of Jack Carter 19 who was shot Wednesday night while riding in a car with two girls. Warrants served in Pulaski an hour later Limestone County officers notified here the girls waived extradition and were being taken to Decatur to view Carter.

Judge Kennamer Gives Farmers Probation After Guilty Plea

Two Coffee County men, K. M. Godwin and P. J. Ham, who pleaded guilty to possessing a still, mesh, and liquor, faced Judge Kennamer in Montgomery federal court. The judge sentenced them to $50 fines due by June 25 and a 13 month suspended penitentiary term, with five years probation. They must abide by rules or face a 30 day sentence.

Eddie Stinson America's dean of aviation dies in a Jackson Park golf course crash after a flagpole collision while attempting a Lake Michigan landing en route to Wayne Michigan. Stinson Demonstrates Spin Recovery On JN Four

The famed pilot Stinson visited Dothan shortly after World War I, flying a Curtiss JN-4 with a passenger. He demonstrated spin recovery, showing how pulling back worsened the spin until a push of the stick and leg kick halted the descent, a method credited with saving many lives. He later toured Montgomery with the National Air Tour in a Stinson Detroit, and began manufacturing planes. Born at Fort Payne, the Detroit plant is noted in Detroit.
