Alabama to mobilize anti aircraft units for state defense
Troy and Montgomery reports say four battalions of anti aircraft units are approved for Alabama National Guard reorganization. The move follows the death of Hitchcock of Union Springs and names Gen. Walter J. Hanna and Jimmy Hitchcock as key figures. The plan envisions a 3000 strong force with modern weapons, replacing older guards as federalized units respond to wartime needs.

Rebels and Yankees unite to raise memorial for secessionists
In a rare cross Confederate Union effort, funds are being gathered to place a memorial grave marker for a secessionist figure. Dr Hoole and Cockrell spearheaded the drive while financial pledges came from both Yankee and Rebel supporters, including gifts from Birmingham and prominent Virginians. The project aims to honor the memory amid lingering Civil War era tensions.
