Ten Thousand Dollar Brick Building Planned Here

A $10,000 brick building and a $4,000 Masonic temple project are slated for Oates Street near the Masonic Temple. John A. Thompson Jr. filed permits for both structures, a tire warehouse and gasoline service station covering most of a 145 by 90 foot lot, with rear loading access. Construction to begin soon, steel frame brick walls and asbestos roofing per city code, enhancing the block near Main and South Cates streets.

Voter Eligibility in Houston County Poll Tax Report

More than 2000 men and women in Houston county would be ineligible to vote if an election were held now. Only 488 of 4000 eligible residents had paid poll tax this year. About 45 percent had paid poll tax. 44 percent had receipts for next year. Approximately a thousand soldiers in Houston county will be eligible to vote without paying poll tax. about a thousand people over 45 are exempt from payment.

Nine Die in Kentucky Pistol Feud and Quarrels

A weekend of feudal strife and family quarrels in Kentucky left nine dead and six wounded. Incidents ranged from a church meeting dispute at New Salem to a duel at Cold Fork Creek and a fatal shooting at Bowling Green. Police Break Up Friendly Game and Jail Eight Players

A neighborhood game described as a friendly gambling session was interrupted by police Saturday night. Eight African Americans were jailed on gambling charges after about $150 was seized. Police reports say the men claimed only a small stake. Five other individuals were jailed for drunkenness.

Stanton, Jr and wife killed in Macon car crash

Frank L. Stanton Jr of Atlanta and his wife died after their car hit a bridge and burned 24 miles north of Macon. Their one year old daughter Dorothy escaped unhurt. Stanton died at a Macon hospital about 12 hours later. Police said he and his daughter were thrown clear. he burned while trying to pull his wife from the burning car. His father was Georgia's poet laureate.
