Dick Butts of Montgomery introduced the first bill to repeal statewide prohibition. The proposal would license saloons at 1500 dollars yearly, set whiskey sales hours, and impose 100 to 500 dollar penalties for violations with license revocation for repeat offenders. It argues all former laws be repealed and expects broad support.

New York Democrats Nominate Sheehan for Senate

William F. Sheehan won the Democratic caucus nomination for U.S. Senate in Albany by 62 votes, four over a legislative majority. Twenty five absentees risk blocking nomination as lawmakers prepare to vote in regular session. Negro arrested murder charged in Dothan scandal

Tom Koonee, a Dothan preacher on Pine Street, is jailed after a well he dug allegedly concealed the body of a black woman and her child. A missing woman named Lurieue and her infant, refused shelter at Koonee’s, left garments at his home, and clues tied to an earlier miscarriage led officers to suspect foul play. The case, involving a large gathering near the well, is under further inquiry.

Alterations Fix House Membership At 433 Oatelde New Mexico

Two changes in the census plan were agreed upon by the Hower committee on census today. They amend Crumpacker's apportionment bill to fix House membership at 433 for Arizona and New Mexico and provide one representative for each territory when they become states. The amendments also adjust apportionment after each decennial census with a 430 divisor to determine the House ratio.
