Tornado Toll Soars Across Alabama And Mississippi
A multi county tornado swept west and central Alabama and Mississippi causing 11 deaths, over 60 injuries, and widespread destruction. Moundville suffered the worst losses with 10 black residents killed and 40 homes ruined by 70 mph winds. New Hamilton and Millbrook also reported fatalities and extensive damage as communication lines and highways were disrupted.
Houston County Crippled Child May Walk Soon
Edward DeVane three year old son of Mrs Victoria DeVane of Dothan route four may walk soon after returning from Birmingham Children's Hospital where casts were placed on his feet for club foot treatment. Funds from the Alabama Society for Crippled Children covered most costs. transport was provided by the Houston County Child Welfare department. He has been in Birmingham since Christmas Eve and will return for cast adjustments. The hospital treated several Houston county children and a Negro boy remains admitted for treatment.

A tornado swept through the Fellowship community three miles west of Gordo injuring Mrs. A E Latham who suffered a broken back as her home collapsed. Her husband escaped uninjured. The storm damaged trees vegetation and blocked roads across about a one quarter by four mile area with five inches of rain falling. Residents planned to assess damage and check for other injuries.
