Yanks won’t swap for Indians or Cleve in 1949
New York Yankees general manager George Weiss said he would not trade for the Cleveland Indians or Boston Red Sox despite their strong finishes. He cited a full medical overhaul of his own club and Casey Stengel’s improved leadership as reasons to expect another pennant chase, noting DiMaggio’s heel issue and a reshaped lineup including Woodling, Mapes, and potential first-base choices.
