Houston County records show thirty-two physicians and surgeons served an estimated 50 000 population last year. In 1947 five new doctors settled in Dothan for practice. Of the 32, twenty-eight are in the county medical society. Four live outside Dothan city. The roster includes 19 general practitioners with four rural workers and specialists in pediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, refraction, surgery, radiology, obstetrics, and public health.

Knife incident leads to arrest in Columbia area
Joe Hutchins, 44, a Black man, is jailed in Houston County on accusations tied to a safety incident involving a Black woman in Columbia. Sheriff Walt Cameron said Hutchins allegedly stabbed the woman through the stomach and multiple areas with a knife. The victim was taken to Blakely hospital. her name wasn't released.
