Pro Grid Officials Protest $500 Fine Over League Discipline
Chicago AP reports NFL Commissioner Elmer Layden fined two top officials $500 each for an alleged altercation during the December 26 title game. George Preston Marshall of the Redskins and Ralph Brizzolaro of the Bears condemned the ruling, calling it unjust and criticizing league actions. Brizzolaro said Marshall should have left, while Bears equipment chief Jack Goldie helped eject Marshall and was escorted by police. Both officials argued the penalties undermine public confidence in professional football.
