Corn Plants Develop Immunity to Borer

Ames Iowa Jan 1 6P Curtiss dean of agriculture at Oswate College reports from Europe that Pasteur Institute Paris researchers find infested corn plants develop immunity to the corn borer and new European varieties progress to be entirely free of the pest. Immunity comes from bacteria produced in the plant that kill the borer. Curtiss adds that bacteria in fluids sprayed on crops may control the pest.
