Woman Struck by Bicycle Recovering After Injury

Mrs John McTyre 65 recovering with a fractured left shoulder after being struck by a bicycle Tuesday night in a dark Columbia street. Negro man killed en route to son burial in Georgia

Floyd Hunt 40, a Wakulla Fla. lumber company employee, died after the truck carrying his son's body for burial at Ft. Gaines Ga. crashed 14 miles south of Dothan on the Bee Line highway. Hunt was fatally injured when steering failed, others aboard escaped serious harm.

First round pairings for the district high school basketball tourney were announced. Dothan High plays Kinston at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Dothan Athletic Club court after recent wins over Hartford. Sir Malcolm Campbell of England set a new world automobile speed record of 253.988 miles per hour over a one mile course at Daytona Beach Florida on February 25. He average two runs 44.17 seconds for the mile and surpassed his prior mark by 8.235 mph. Campbell hinted at attempting higher speeds if beach conditions allowed.

Benefit Shows Net $67 To Relief Fund of Unemployed Here

Two picture shows at the Alcazar theatre raised funds for the unemployed relief. Proceeds totaled 67 dollars, with the city police aiding ticket sales and Sergeant O D Moates selling 228 tickets. The unemployment committee thanked the theatre and local drug stores in Dothan for their support.

Winnie Ruth Judd Denied New Trial Faces Death Row

Mrs Winnie Ruth Judd, convicted trunk murderer, was moved to the condemned row at Arizona State Prison Florence after Judge Howard Speakman denied a new trial and sentenced her to death for the killings of Mrs Agnes Lerol and Miss Hedvig Samuelson. Sheriff J R McFadden reported she was in good spirits and sang Spanish songs. She acknowledged having an accomplice when asked about the killings.

In Shanghai on February 25 the Chinese army, after heavy Japanese bombardment on Kiangwan, launched a surprise counterattack and regained most of the lost ground. Japanese forces pressed a strong assault from the northwest, but Chinese defenders countered as 40 Japanese planes bombed the area and heavy artillery pressed the attack.
