Man in Jail Here After Gordon Fight Ends In Hospital

Harvey Cook 29 of near Gordon faces assault with intent to murder after a Saturday night fight near Gordon left Frank Meadows 18 in a hospital in critical condition with knife wounds and severe head injuries. Cook is held without bond as Meadows undergoes treatment for multiple gashes and a severed rib.

Houston Program on Radio Tonight

Houston county and Dothan will be on the radio tonight at 8 30 o'clock with Dothan speakers. The broadcast from WAPI Birmingham is under the Protective Life Insurance company auspices. Circuit Solicitor J Norton Mulling and Betts Sting Tuff, Dothan representative, will lead the program. The show is part of a series of Alabama county programs from the Insurance firm.

Three Jailed Here On W P L Charges

Weekend arrests by bounty officers on prohibition charges left three jailed in the area. Norman Williams of near Grangesburg was jailed after officers found tomelons of whiskey in his home. Jack Lightning and James Austin, both Negroes, were arrested near Columbia where a gallon of whiskey was reportedly found with them. Williams posted bond, but the two Negroes remained in bail default.

Youth Baseball Play Incident At Local School

James Tindell, 14, son of Mr and Mrs C W Tindell, was injured chasing a ball at Young Junior High. He crashed into a goal post, suffering a cut nose eye injury and hip bruise, received first aid then returned home after hospital care. initially feared concussion but recovered to continue schoolwork.

Tornado Devastates Whitehurst Brindley Homes At Cowarts

A night tornado near Cowarts struck the Whitehurst home injuring Mrs. A L Whitehurst severely and bruising several family members. The Brindley residence, barn roof, and surrounding outbuildings were damaged as the storm moved across lands to Dothan. Five or more people were hurt, and the path extended eight miles with extensive timber loss and livestock unharmed. The 1918 Cowarts storm tragedy is recalled, with many injuries and fatalities noted in nearby towns.
