In Bessemer and Elba events, Senator J Thomas Heflin urged the state Democratic executive committee to rescind its action barring bolters from the party. He attacked John H Bankhead and Alfred E Smith, claiming the committee protected Bankhead as a “corporation man.” The Coffee County panel invited all qualified electors to participate in the August primary as voters and candidates.
The body of Lieut Willard R Whitmore of Maxwell Field is being held at a Montgomery undertaker pending instructions from his Wichita Kansas parents Mr and Mrs C Kilworth Whitmore. He drowned when his plane nosed over in a gravel pit three miles from the reservation and settled in 20 feet of water. The body was recovered two hours later after he was seen struggling in the water. He came to Hardett Field last November after training at Ketly Field and had just completed examinations for a commission in the regular army.
