Slocomb public schools support a bond drive led by principal B A Wyatt under Mrs J T Boystis supervision. The event, spanning Monday and Tuesday, impacted nearly every citizen as grade levels and sections were showcased in the effort facilitated by Greenwind and the school district.

Mack Deslivey a World War I veteran and former Buloxi resident won a commutation from Gov. Sparke hours before an intended electric chair execution. He was convicted in Baldwin County of killing his 14-year-old foster daughter Ruby Sims Deslivey. The governor reduced the death sentence to life imprisonment citing circumstantial evidence and doubts about a coroner defect. The girl was last seen with Deslivey in April 1947 near Bay Minette, with a skeleton later claimed by the state to be hers. The State Supreme Court had affirmed the death sentence and denied a rehearing.
Washington AP reports the House Military Committee will begin hearings next week on a plan to create a peacetime standing army of 5,000,000. Chairman May of Kentucky introduced a bill for compulsory one year military or naval training for all males at draft age with deferments for students. Trained personnel would be placed in reserve and subject to refresher training. May estimates millions would be drafted annually. The piece also mentions a Jamestown colony and currency notes.

The blaze started around 11 p.m. with a second flare at about 2 15 p.m. A mate reportedly moved a burning sofa to a back porch where the fire originated.
Alolee Dawkins a Headland route three Negro, dropped dead at the Dothan bus terminal this morning after suffering a heart attack. Coroner Arthur Lane said Dawkins had a Jacksonville bound bus ticket and fell after stepping from the bus as it pulled into the terminal. The driver reported he complained of illness on the bus before dying. a Dothan undertaker took charge of the body.
Dr D C McGuire of Montgomery says wealth from the South is washing into the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic via the Dothan treaty era. He argues the North offers better jobs and opportunities for the young. Mrs Minnie Heard notes Dothan children score below national averages. The meeting at the Houston Hotel also announced plans for a Saturday Country Club dance for new members and wives.
