Rescue Efforts Continue For Stranded Admiral Benson
In Astoria Oregon on February 17 rescue attempts will resume to save 65 crew and seven or eight passengers aboard the steamship Admiral Benson which ran aground on Peacock Spit near the Columbia River mouth. Alabama mother of five jailed for home brew and whiskey
A 56 year old Mrs James McHaney of near Ensley was sentenced to six months in Jefferson county jail after a federal court conviction for possessing five bottles of home brew and a pint of whiskey. Her husband got five years probation on the same charge. Prohibition agents arrested the couple at their home. Four daughters aged six to 15 witnessed the trial. A 17 year old son was absent.

Local garage owner dies after Porter's Frytland crash
Robert Hubert a 47 year old garage owner of Dothan died from injuries after a D2Soto coupe carrying him and Leon Rogers overturned twice on Porter's Frytland road Friday night. Rogers survived with minor injuries. Hubert is survived by a wife three young children and an adult daughter in New York City. Funeral plans were not yet set.

In Clayton Georgia a Atlantic Coast Line train struck a car at Jakin crossing killing S D Zorn 35 Mrs S D Zorn 32 and Emmett Zorn 14 instantly. Dixie Zorn 12 and Barney Justice 33 were injured. The car was driven by Emmett Zorn as the train approached. The accident occurred near the depot in Jakin about 9 20 Sunday. the injured were taken to Donalsonville hospital and expected to recover. The engineer Louis Askery of Dothan had two brothers living there.

Funeral services were held there at 1 o clock with Hu ron Funeral Company in charge. She was the wife of W J Sharpless of Dothan now in Dothan hospital after an appendicitis operation last week. Her remains were shipped from Honolulu to return home.

Home of Jim Burdeshaw Destroyed by Fire Near Dothan
Fire wiped out the residence of Jim Burdeshaw about three miles from Dothan. Investigators found the origin undetermined as firemen battled flames but could not determine the cause. All furnishings and supplies inside the home and smokehouse were saved. The dwelling stood at 607 Toon near the Kinsey Road.
