Newsom Bonus Claim Scored By O'Conner
CHICAGO AP Leslie M O Connor, chairman of the major league advisory council, ruled against a 1500 bonus claim by pitcher L N Newsom against the St Louis Browns. The council declares a bad practice of agreements not in contracts will incur fines. Newsom received a 1000 bonus for reporting promptly and in the right frame of mind and was to receive 1500 more based on his 1943 season. The bulletin says the bonus was to be left to Browns president Donald L Parnes. Newsom won one game and lost six before seeking a trade, which Barnes denied.
