Trainees Transferred To Permanent Party Status
Brig General Gravely announced that trainees in the Army Air Eastern Flying Training Command will transfer to permanent party status effective January. Enlisted men previously on-line as pilots bombers navigators or mechanics will serve as student airplane mechanics while awaiting preflight school. Lt General Yount noted transfers do not bar entry to aircrew training and assignments will suit war needs until preflight school. The move, directed by Army Air Forces Headquarters, helps offset losses from a prior release of 6,000 permanent party members to ground forces and retains status of trainees as pre-aircrew.
