Butter Price Break Sends Others Down
Prices for many cost of living items tumbled in major cities led by a sharp fall in wholesale butter in New York and Chicago. Keg prices dropped in several locations with a wholesale decline in New York and reductions in New York Boston Philadelphia Atlanta Kansas City Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Associated Press survey shows department stores cutting clothing prices substantially in post holiday sales. Officials question whether declines will hold and whether February will bring broader food price reductions. News notes the butter market had been kept high in New York and the dairymen league cooperative says it helped support prices to protect milk prices.
