Inauguration of Gov James E Folsom sparks Alabama year
Elton Creamer notes Alabama's 1947 year ends with Gov James E Folsom's inauguration and a year of clashes with the Legislature over a proposed self session amendment. Folsom, a 6 foot 8 inch insurance salesman, built national attention through bold campaigns and mass voter engagement. More than 100,000 witnessed his oath on January 20 as disputes at Capitol Hill intensified.
