Hoover Years Began Big Tasks in White House
Hoover's first year in the White House, 1929, saw ambitious agendas across foreign and domestic policy. He pushed for diplomatic strength, farm relief, tariff reform, debt settlements, and law enforcement reforms while Congress addressed the Farm Board, tax cuts, and lingering tariff questions. The year included stock market aftermath, business outreach, and the start of several commissions on public lands and child welfare, with many initiatives awaiting fuller action in a divided Congress.
