Ancient Irish cremated their dead built raft villages
Harvard University anthropologists report findings from a five year survey in the Free State. In Westmeath Ballinderry a 102nd century raft village atop a huge log raft foundation shows lake dwellers building peat and brushwood platforms with a palisade. Artifacts include wooden tubs iron knives bone combs and bronze items revealing farming hunting and social life. The team led by Professor E A Hooton and Walter Warner details the site and methods in a Bead Dothan Eagle notice.
