Seaboard denied plea to abandon GF and A line

The Interstate Commerce Commission refused to permit Seaboard Air Line through its receivers to abandon operation of the Georgia Florida and Alabama Railroad. The line, costing the company over a million dollars yearly, was begun in 1927 with 18 miles from Richland Georgia to Carmabelle Florida. The record shows failure of both parties to agree on terms and that continued operation serves public convenience and necessity.

Costly Navy Race Looms in London Talks End

The London naval talks likely end automatically as the London treaty expires December 31, 1936 and Japan abandons the Washington pact. Beginning January 1, 1937 no international limits remain on naval strength, with the United States and Britain not reaching their 5 5 3 ratios while Japan builds toward its 3 ratio. US and Japan figures show aging ships reduce fighting efficiency, and by 1936 end the United States will field 113 warships totaling 734 580 tons, with Britain close behind.

Naval treaty collapse tightens race to rearm

AP reports that London talks stall as Japan demands equality under the Washington naval treaty set to expire in 1936. US and Britain accuse Tokyo of lagging quotas while Japan fields growing fleet strength across capital ships carriers and submarines. Debates hinge on post treaty limits and race to rearm amid new maneuvers in the Pacific.

Naval forces and talks shape London naval parley

Secretary Swanson reports United States Navy with 373 ships totaling 1 002 025 tons and 68 under construction or appropriated. Great Britain at 276 ships and 1 158 659 tons with 62 under construction. Japan has 220 ships and 758 561 tons with 45 under construction. The document notes calls for equality in talks and a US plan to reach treaty strength by building 78 ships including an aircraft carrier to replace Langley and several destroyers and submarines.

Hundred Million Sees Steel Boom Across Industries

The $100,000,000 equipment program shifts the industry. Automakers anticipate a bigger year than 1934 with 2.7 million cars, rails and locomotives rise in railroad buying, and steel firms predicting peak public works demand. Oil and gas gear may rebound while steel could push into small residential construction, matching auto market scale.

Submarine Program Seeks Congressional Funding
