Convicted Official Paroled After Serving Time
MONTGOMERY AP Clifton Mann, former Madison County commissioner jailed in 1947 for forging names on payroll checks and obtaining money by false pretense, was freed on parole after serving two and a half years of a 14 year sentence. His release followed a 17 man delegation appealing to the State Pardon-Parole Board aligned with Gov Folsom’s cabinet meeting. Mann had been at Kilby Prison and Cullman State Farm Camp. There were charges against another former commissioner, indicted with acquittal, over about $55 000 misappropriated from county funds. The Evansville baseball record throw is noted in unrelated copy.
