Pecans Theft Suspect Held on Grand Jury Charge

Three men face charges in Houston County. Messe Smith, 31, held on a $900 bond on a grand jury count for theft of 108 pounds of pecans valued at $400, with police saying he sold them and admitted the theft. A. B. Cherry, 37, held on $200 bond on a murder threats warrant. Bill Phillips, 43, released on $300 bond on a false pretenses charge. warrant tied to repair work on his truck.

Four Permits Issued For Residences Here

Four residential permits were approved by the city engineer office with costs from 1500 to 3600 dollars. W W O Mendheim is building a home on Third Street for 3500 dollars. Frank Gentle at 502 Wasser and C P Gentle at 504 Wasser each receive 2500 dollar homes. L A Dillon builds on Headland Avenue for 1500 dollars. Fred Cherry earns a permit to erect a neon sign at 116 S St Andrews for 250 dollars.

Officers Recover Two Stolen Autos

Do than residents report two automobiles stolen recently have been recovered. Highway Patrolman M S Vickery said today. One car stolen from Robert Ramsey last week was recovered in Geneva County Saturday by Sheriff W P Register and Geneva’s chief of police. Only the glove compartment, apparently pried open, was damaged. Sheriff’s staff at Cuthbert Georgia notified local patrolmen that a car stolen from a local used car company has been found there.

Weekend Arrests Total 66 Here

Sixty six arrests were recorded in Dothan and Houston County over the weekend, with most for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. Jail records show city officers handling 58 arrests and county officers eight.

Dothan Veterans Enlist In Air Force

Two Dothan veterans, Wilson D. Herndon and Cliflion W. Shiver, have enlisted in the Air Force and are assigned to Tyndall Field Florida for duty. Shiver enters as sergeant while Herndon holds corporal rank. Also enlisted and transferred to Fort Benning Georgia are W. C. Vinson of Coffee Springs route one and T. J. Bess of Chancellor route one.

Arson case tied to 11 lynchings fuels Georgia rewards

Pollock testified Grimes admitted splashing gasoline on Mt Zion Methodist, Friendship Baptist and local school buildings where Negro burial societies met. He supposedly set the fires after leaving a party and waiting inside until meetings ended. Georgia law limits arson penalties without injuries. Walton County, Loganville and the state offered 890 dollars in rewards. Detectives from local agencies and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation helped arrest Grimes. A one hundred dollar death benefit was placed with the county probate judge for the girl beneficiary until age 21.

New Orleans Cotton Futures Edge Higher Then Slip

In New Orleans early trading cotton futures rose by about 15 to 35 cents per bale before profit taking pulled prices back. At 31:30 aqn prices showed gains with May and Oct contracts around 35.8 and 34.6 respectively, while New York saw a later drop under liquidation pressure with December at 36.25 and May at 35.62.

Acute livestock feed shortage warned at Farm Bureau meet

At a livestock conference in Chicago, R K Buss Iowa Extension and Hal B Wiser California Farm Bureau warned of an acute shortage of feed grains before spring.
