Death Rate Increases Says Recent Report
Deaths from all causes rise with the overall death rate climbing from 78.4 to 79.2 per 100000. Accidental drowning and automobile accidents show the largest increases. Automobile deaths include collisions with trains and streetcars. 1928 rates compare with 1927 totals 26 348 versus 22 312. Decreases from 1927 to 1928 occur in tuberculosis and infant diseases, whooping cough, diarrhoea under two, poliomyelitis, typhoid and scarlet fever, while railroad accident deaths are noted.
