Gen Frederick E. Uhl warns high school seniors and graduates only days remain to enlist for the Army Specialized Training Reserve program. To qualify by December 31, students should finish high school by March 31. Tuition books housing board and medical care are provided. uniforms issued. Only spending money, laundry, pressing, cleaning and toilet articles are personal costs. Enlistees won t be called to active duty until after their eighteenth birthday quarter ends. Accepted students are assigned to Alabama Polytechnic Institute Auburn Clemson College North Georgia College or North Carolina State College.
A search that began November 18 for a Negro charged with assault with intent to murder ended with the arrest of Will Keats, accused of shooting Joseph Truitt at a rear Dixie cafe on November 10. Truitt, shot in the head, was treated and later swore out a warrant. Stage setting and managers named are Robert Lakey and David Johnson.
Forty seven people attended an x-ray chest clinic at the Houston County health department over two days. All examinees were county residents examined by county physicians. Dr D G Andress served as clinician. Mrs Virginia Moeller announced Madrid maternity clinic will move to the last Wednesday afternoon of the month.
Dr Zebulon Judd dean of the School of Education at Alabama Polytechnic Institute spoke to the Houston County Teachers Association at their monthly meeting. Solomon Baxter the county superintendent announced the two day county visit with a talk to Cottonwood students today. Judge Judd, author of education texts, previously taught at UNC and served as Sumter County superintendent before Auburn.
