Roosevelt silent as new recovery plan may seek four billion
President Roosevelt, reportedly healthy after a rest, weighs a unified recovery program that may ask Congress for at least 4 billion dollars to fund relief, land and water conservation, roads, parks and slum clearance. A central fund could distribute money to targeted projects while plans remain undecided ahead of Congress. Hopkins hinted at broad relief reach, and discussions with bankers focus on avoiding drastic changes to banking laws. The Reconstruction Finance Corporation expands lending to strengthen banks in a drive to bolster the financial system.
