Farmers are warned that nitrogen and potash will remain scarce in 1949. They should contact fertilizer dealers in December to arrange for next year, especially for top dressing of small grains in February and March. December is a good time to inspect land and plan profitable cropping with guidance from the county agent.
TV extension agents warn that December brings sudden weather changes affecting hogs. Exposure to raw weather causes hog troubles, but simple hog houses can protect. County agents offer blueprints and plans for sturdy, affordable hog houses at no cost.
Prepare plant beds by cleaning repairing and adding new soil and manure. Cover beds to protect from cold and retain heat. December is a good month to ready houses and equipment for spring chicks and place orders for U S Alabama certified pullorum tested chicks from a nearby hatchery.
