Taft campaign built vast volunteer network in Ohio
The Taft effort grew from strategic 1948 meetings in Cincinnati and Cleveland into a wide volunteer machine. Ray Bliss led a county chair network, Gradison ran a parallel Taft organization, and 176 county leaders coordinated 29 special committees. The campaign aimed at mobilizing 200,000 new registrations and a broad, issue focused push to secure votes statewide.
