British Editor Denounces False Atrocity Story

London editor Gerald Barry of the London News Chronicle charged Allied authorities with spreading a false atrocity tale. He cited an Associated Press report about four German boys between ages 1 and 14 mishandling rifles near U.S. troops, saying they were innocent and released. Barry blamed authorities for the rumor, not the press, and noted proposed court-martial discussions.
