ATLANTA AP Nineteen major trucking lines in the Atlanta area faced a driver and helper walkout today. Twenty two Southeast unions voted to walk out. Workers are members of the International Union of Teamsters Chauffers Warehousemen and Helpers AFL. No over the road workers were reported. Government shipments including a large blood pr... sser for the armed forces were tied up. About 517 workers were eligible to vote in Atlanta where the stoppage became effective that night. Union officials declined comment. A spokesman for the Atlanta Lines said a meeting of operators was called for later today and suspected the stoppage was over a wage rise of three cents an hour granted by the War Labor Board or a retroactive pay dispute. An authoritative source said 72 locales in the Southeast had voted stoppages in recent weeks and the cooling off period under the Smith Act had expired or neared expiry.
Johnnie McSwain a juvenile delinquent described as a Negro who has been held in the Houston County jail on first degree burglary charges will face Judge Baxon P. Poyner Tuesday in juvenile court. The case is listed on Page 2.
London AP reports three war correspondents failed to return from a RAF raid on Berlin. Bennett of International News Service and Norman Stockton of Sydney Morning Post are named, with a third correspondent unnamed.
