The War Production Board issued a ban effective immediately on certain ammunition sales to the public. Dealers may stockpiles and supply to farmers and ranchers with prior permissions, while buyers must sign a declaration. Allowance quotas run through December 31 with specified limits on rim-fire, center-fire rifle, and shotgun ammunition.
Oscar Lee Bentley of 205 Sean Foster Street dies after illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at Ward-Wilson chapel with Rev. Sem C. Reeves officiating. burial in the local cemetery. Survived by wife Daisy, three sons Oscar L. Bentley, H J. Bentley, and Oliver P. Bentley, three brothers, and a circle of grandchildren. Active pallbearers listed.
A damaged wartime note reports German forces and a Polish area operation near Ploest to the northeast of Bucharest. It cites Rodion Y. Maltovsky's unit and mentions 200 towns seized with unclear dates and locations.

Allied reports say Malinovsky's forces press in the Easter Carpathians north of Ploesti while Hungary and Germany battle to seal four major passes into Transylvania. Berlin acknowledges Russian incursions in two locations with fierce fighting, and Berlin calls its defense of Proest tremendously costly.
entomologist from Stele extension service and Rupert Creel with Gary aged expert reported heavy infestation of baby worms on peanuts. Eight larvae found on a single vine and many moths observed. Indications point to a larger worm crop than prior attacks on peanuts in the area.
Dawsey suffered slight facial burns when a celluloid eye shade he wore caught fire from a lit cigarette in a doctor's waiting room. Mrs. Charles Faulk smothered the flames with a scarf, saving him from more serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital and later moved to another facility on North Appletree Street.
Collis Couch, a Black man, was sentenced for false pretense after a Houston County trial. Circuit Judge D C Halstead denied his motion for retrial. He allegedly found and cashed a $105.55 check made out to ER E Wright at a downtown store, posing as Wright to obtain cash.
The report details Allied advances across France as British Canadian and American forces drive toward the Belgian border. Forces under Hodges push near Laon and Senlis while Canadian troops reach Rouen and the Seine river line. The thrust aims at the Somme front as French defenses retreat eastward.

Marianna resident Private First Class Joseph P. National headquarters announces Geneva Chapter No 5 as the largest DAV unit in Alabama. The Geneva chapter enrolled 148 members for 1945, with 105 recruited in the last two months. Most new members are World War II veterans with service connected disabilities. Commander Dawe urges all disabled veterans to enroll. Commander Davis is a World War I veteran and former Montgomery Legion Post patient.
In a late August update Allied columns pressed into Chabeuil and blocked German escape routes from Livian to Lyon. German rearguard actions in the Montelimar sector forced Patch's Doughboys from Ciary, five miles northeast of Montelimar, before Americans retook the village with light opposition.
Patterson reported Army totals to August 13 show 53,101 killed 142,686 wounded 44,643 missing and 44,409 prisoners with 60,314 wounded returned to duty. Navy totals stand at 58,358 with weekly comparisons: killed 23,544 missing 9,652 wounded 20,701 prisoners 4,406.

Mr Hicks of Tennessee who became an apprentice at 12 traveled the United States and helped establish furniture factories. He moved to Montgomery in 1919, opened an antique shop, and gained a cabinet maker reputation. He retired around 1830 and was an invalid. Survived by widow, two daughters Otis Freeme of Montgomery and Seen us Dothan, and two sons John W. Hicks of Montgomery.
