The liner Queen Mary claimed the blue ribbon for a record trans Atlantic crossing from Cherbourg to Ambrose Lightship in four days seven hours twelve minutes. Despite rough seas off New England and New Jersey, she lowered the Norddeutscher Lloyd line’s record by about 30 minutes, averaging 30.01 knots, beating her maiden voyage time of June 3, 1935.
