Shuttle Endurance Test Set For Transcontinental Flight
Plans call for a single engine air mail plane nicknamed shuttle to fly a five continent endurance mission from Ny Hornet field to San Francisco and back with midair refuelings at Cheyenne Omaha and Reno. The crew includes Capt St Clair Street and Lieut Orton Longfellow piloting refueling planes while air mail pilots from the Boe system service the mission. The operation, aided by corps and United Aircraft Transport, uses 525 horsepower powerplant with open cockpit for the pilot and a second crewman in the cabin, marking a first for such endurance tests.
