The contractor building the new Negro high school in Dothan asked the city for payment for work since last June. The school costs are estimated at 250000 to 300000 dollars from the city funds. June saw a 65000 dollar payment to the contractor.
In Geneva two people were slightly injured when an automobile driven by Nathaniel Head Jr of Anniston struck a vehicle driven by L D Chaney of Hartford Route One near Hartford. Head suffered cuts and bruises while his wife Thyra Head broke a collar bone. Damage was estimated at 200 dollars. The driver Cheney turned into a driveway six miles from Hartford, and no charges were filed.
Mildred D Gillars once of Portland Maine sails from Frankfurt to Washington for treason trial in the United States She broadcast anti American appeals to troops during World War II and was arrested after Allied entry to Germany. She wore a black fur cloak and slacks on her departure.

The state deems the situation desperate and asks military authorities for barracks and Army requisitioned apartments to house evacuees.

Secretary Symington, who joined the trip in Europe, was not on board.
In Berlin the Potsdamer Platz confrontation left four dead and up to twenty wounded after German mobs attacked Soviet sector police. American and British airlift continued with 526 flights delivering about 2,338 tons of supplies, including 1,548 tons of coal, amid mounting Cold War tensions and propaganda.

Funeral services were held for Alvin J. Hatcher sixty three at the Geneva Methodist church. He died at home Wednesday afternoon after a short illness. Survived by his wife Willie Edna two daughters Sara and Mrs F L Strickland five sons Rex H H George James and Joseph one sister Mrs W A Parrish two brothers W E and E C Hatcher. City engineer granted permits for nine new residences totaling about 63 175 dollars. Additional permits include a shoe repair shop for O C Adkins at 800 block of E Main for 500 dollars and Fred Johnson repair shop at 411 N Foster for 100 dollars.
