Houston County cotton crop forecast by banker Malone

George H. Malone, president of the First National Bank, estimates Houston County will produce at least 27,300 bales of cotton, likely around 30,000, possibly more, after a county tour. He notes farmers have worked hard, paid debts, and expect good collections and solid commerce in late fall and winter. He urges synchronized timing for television signal transmissions via a separate FCC channel.

Collision Injures Four as Two Cars Clash Near Camp Bellton

Four people were injured when a Birmingham driven car collided with a Ford touring car two miles below Camp Bellton. Miss Miller led the Birmingham car with four aboard, while Stump Daniels and three passengers rode the Ford. Mr White of Birmingham suffered a broken shoulder and other bruises, taken to Marianna for treatment. The Birmingham car, heading toward Panama City, reportedly sped as the Ford driver turn left into a sidetrack road. Both cars were heavily damaged and two of the Negro occupants sustained injuries, one serious.

The cotton market in New York shows open steady activity with August 19 notes. Prices quoted for October through May future contracts hover around 15.47 to 15.86 with various months recorded as reference points.

Graf Zeppelin completes its longest flight circling Tokyo and lands at Kasumigaura naval airport after 100 hours and 3 minutes aloft covering about 6500 miles. Three Killed and Dozens Hurt in Weekend Crashes

Three persons were killed and more than a score injured in traffic accidents over the weekend. In Florida a truck and a motorcycle collided near Milton, killing Meyer Bukantz of Opp, Alabama, Betty Bukantz age one, and Marie Diamond of Beulah, Florida. Six others were injured, two critically, in Birmingham and three more near Montgomery and Tuscaloosa.

William George Gavin 47 of Noma Florida died at a local hospital at 6 A M Sunday from pernicious malaria. Ashford Man Critically Hurt In Auto Wreck

J H Dupree of Ashford in critical condition after a car crash seven miles from Dothan on the Ashford highway. Dupree suffered a crushed skull and unconsciousness. Sterling Hicks of Ashford sustained minor injuries when the auto collided with a wagon and concrete guard posts. Dupree, a longtime owner of the Ashford telephone company, is married with three children.

Mobile Aug 1 PL Congresman Lister Hill told the opening Alabama American Legion session that GOP leaders refused to allow the house to consider wartime veterans hospitalization legislation. Berlin reports a holding monopoly on radio broadcasting funds the German ministry of posts. About 30,000,000 annually flows into the ministry through the monopoly. Each licensee pays roughly $1 per year for the privilege. Revenues split 50-50 between the postal ministry and licensed providers. Nearly 3,000,000 radio subscribers exist in Germany.

Grand jury to meet Thursday at court house

The grand jury, formed to review the preliminary hearing of five men J J Holland, Richard Harrison, William C Taylor, Al Galson, and Herty Newsine, charged with robbing the Cottonwood Bank, will assemble Thursday morning. Holland confessed after an hour of questioning. Harrison admitted several details. It is unclear if the others have spoken.

Five killed in Little Rock house fire murder suicide

In Little Rock a man killed his wife and four children with gas and fire then took poison, leaving a charred home. Neighbors heard a blast and saw a blazing scene as fire crews found Mrs Magdelene Nielson and five youths dead. the husband’s body was later located. Authorities investigated the blaze as a possible murder suicide.
