5000 Turned Adrift By State WPA Declared Too Many
Alabama welfare officials said 5000 former WPA relief clients cannot all be absorbed by state aid. A. B. Collins noted rolls cut from about 20 000 to 26 000 families, with $250 000 in relief funds allocated to counties for six months. Some will qualify for state pensions or handicapped allowances. others will be dropped. The move reflects eligibility rules and funding limits amid a broader relief squeeze.
