Proposed ordinance voted down at previous meeting

City council debated a Sunday theatre closing measure and other amusements. The ordinance, largely targeting Sunday picture shows, was defeated 5 to 0 in the last session, with councilmen Black Burkett Newton Bites for and Botts McEntyre Mills Hall Smith against. Smyrna Farmer Seriously Injured After Hat Loss

D W McInnis, prominent Smyrna farmer, was injured when a wind dislodged his hat from an ice truck en route from Webb to Dothan yesterday. He fell, struck his head, and was knocked unconscious with suspected brain concussion. He was carried home by the truck driver.

Promoter Guy Baldwin Held Over Vaudeville Debts After Show

After promoting a show with police and fire department support, promoter Guy Baldwin attempted to flee on the Coast Line with more than $300 owed to 16 vaudeville performers. He was captured near the railroad station and held at his offices as claims from workers and contestants mounted. Officials voiced a stern warning to settle accounts, auditing receipts from stadium tickets and contest proceeds.

The Chamber of Commerce annual dinner at the Houston hotel Tuesday evening at 7:30 will feature Governor Graves and Thad Holt of Birmingham. Farmer Blinded by Explosion While Stump Blowing

James W. Ziegler former Dale county commissioner was badly injured when a dynamite charge under a stump failed to ignite. He stooped to inspect the stump as the blast occurred badly lacerating his face and blowing out one eye. He was taken to a Dothan hospital after the accident yesterday.
