Funeral services for Mrs J A Metcalf were held Friday at the home of her daughter Mrs Hinet Owens in Doiron Springs, with burial in the Matediases Cemetery. Survived by son L J Beicall of Union Springs, three daughters Mrs Edwards Mrs May Owens and Mrs Nellie Simin of Tampa, sister Mrs WB Tampa Lin Montgomery, 32 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Houston County reports the April 4-H demonstration winners led by Montez Kirkland and Mary Eleanor Adams of Rehobeth Elementary 4-H Club and Janice Bund and four others of Rehabeth High School Club. Funeral services for Emma Knox Kenan eighty five a Geneva resident long active in civic life were held today at the residence with Rev W B Clemmons officiating Burial was in City cemetery Pittman Funeral Home in charge She helped found the Geneva library and was a charter member of the Geneva Presbyterian Church Surviving are three daughters Mrs J P Carter Sr Mrs Louise Chapman and Miss Rebecca Kenan of Geneva two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Solomon Baxter, county superintendent of education, was elected chairman of the Houston County information panel. The newly formed panel will assist the War Price and Rationing Hoard in relaying information to the public. Members include Mrs A E Mathis representing women’s clubs of Dothan, Miss Fran Mailette county home demonstration agent, Miss Elizabeth Cspy representing radio, Mrs J W Blakey of the city’s PTA clubs, J W Parkman representing men’s clubs, and Miss Carolyn Mullins of the county rationing board.
Mrs Marguerite E Clark was notified by the War Department that her husband Pfc Bill Wilburn W Clark has been missing in action in Germany since April 5. Clark son of Mr and Mrs William J Clark of Graceville formerly of Dothan entered service in 1945 and went overseas in November. He had won the Combat Infantryman badge and two battle stars.
Mastan O Neal and Cecil Guilford were inducted by Kiwanian GW. John at the Dothan Kiwanis Club meeting held yesterday at the Houston Hotel. A junior high group led by Miss Laura Lee Ferguson presented a current events program featuring students June Givens Mary Cannon Mera Cannon George Vance Jr Mack Johnson Nora Joyce Mec Crory William Parrish and Charles Patterson. Guests included Kiwanian Ronald Fowler of Chipley the Rev Clement Ritter of Dothan and E R Bults guest of Sam Stephens.
