Police hunt in girl s death investigates letter writer

Washington April 17 AP police seek a man who wrote ardent letters to Mary Baker as a key figure in her death. He has not been seen in Washington recently and may have left the city. Investigators probe if he attended the March 31 house warming in Lyon Park Virginia where Baker and two companions moved in. The body was found near Arlington National Cemetery after she was assaulted Friday night. Four agencies collaborate in an expanding case.

Population gains soar in Alabama towns with Auburn-mentality shifts

Gadsden grows by 9 162 to 23 899 people and Alabama City rises 2 965 to 8 417. Cordova adds 208 to 1 830 while Oakman drops 160 to 927. Fort Payne climbs 1 100 to 3 750 and Attala increases 1 108 to 4 571. Hot Springs gains 8 425 to 20 115 and Pell City adds 18 to 833. Ashville up 20 to 209 with Walnut Grove at 216 and rising.
