Fire at Atmore prison farm destroyed two storehouses on April 17 releasing about 130 tons of sodium nitrate and ammonium sulfate and damaging facilities. Officials said some fertilizer may be salvageable while large quantities of crops and supplies were also destroyed. Cause under investigation with possible wiring fault or arson considered.
W. P. Crawford, county food inspector, has resigned. Dr. H. B. Belmar, county milk and dairy inspector, will serve as food inspector. Dr. W. T. Burkett, county health officer, announced inspections for drug stores cafes and other food establishments will continue but less frequently due to Belmar's added duties.
City police reported a typical weekend with 34 arrests over 48 hours, mostly for drunkenness. His brother Lovie Goodson serves in the U S Navy in Europe and his wife Reva Cheynay of Straw Plains Tennessee.
