Worst Sea Disaster 20 Years Ago Thursday
New York April 11 AP Twenty years ago on Thursday the Titanic struck ice and sank with 1,513 aboard. Survivors numbered 711. The ship, largest afloat, was built at Belfast for White Star Line, launched May 31, 1911, and sank on its maiden voyage after leaving Southampton April 10, 1912, via Cherbourg and Queenstown. The vessel never reached New York.
