Rare Earth metals may be common in future alloys
Washington AP reports atomic energy commission scientists have separated small, pure amounts of rare earth elements like neodymium didymium and lanthanum from ores. The metals, long hard to extract, could find uses in high temperature alloys and specialized products. Cerium is already used in luminants and non iron alloys, with optimism that more rare earths such as praseodymium samarium gadolinium ytterbium and yttrium will become practical as production increases. Also, Mrs. A Dodson in Fort Worth slept on 100 blasting caps found in a suitcase from a wartime relative.
