Mrs Mary Johnson longtime resident of Ashford dies at home after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at Rocky Creek Baptist Church at 3 p m tomorrow. She is survived by her husband J J Johnson of Ashford route two, a daughter and four sons, with extended family in Hulie Ashford Pansey and Olynoch.
Harry Martin former probate judge of Houston County spoke to Abe Kiwanis Club on the 0th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson birth detailing his career. He noted Jefferson authored the Declaration of Independence and the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, helped found the University of Virginia, and began his career at 24 when admitted to the bar. Martin described Jefferson as a learned inquisitive young man with a career marred by political feuds and remarked he did not list presidency on his epitaph.
