Legion Leads Fight Against One Agency For Hospitals
The American Legion, with about two million members, argues to keep VA hospitals under the VA while opposing Hoover Commission plans to form a single United Medical Administration controlling VA and other hospital programs. The group, backed by Veterans of Foreign Wars and other veterans organizations, urges Congress to reject the reform, citing potential red tape and reduced benefits. A broadside urges posts to pressure lawmakers, while some doctors criticize centralized control as inefficient. Dr J B Tingle appears in Columbus, Georgia, in an unrelated note.
