Message In A Bottle Returned To Navy
A bottle drifted from California to Hawaii in a year and nine days then reached the U S Navy hydrographic office in San Francisco. It was part of 100 bottles scattered across the Pacific by airliner on December 16, 1947. This is the fourth bottle found, three came from the Philippines. The Hawaiian bottle drifted about 2000 miles and averaged five miles per day. The Navy uses the findings to guide mariners and share new ocean current data.
