The Huntingdon College Glee Club will present its first annual home concert in the college chapel at 8 15 Monday evening directed by Erle Darney head of the music department. Selections include Bach from the St Matthew Passion Brahms Le Fevre Franck and Kalman with soloists Miss Arlene Hawke and Miss Mary Pierce Bowers. Members listed hail from multiple Alabama Georgia and Florida towns.
The Harmony Club presents a 3:30 Sunday City Auditorium program with guest artists from San Jose Houston New York and North Dakota. Performers include Mrs. Melvin J. Weyand Corporal Randel Private Emile Basile and Corporal Eugene Seaman with Mrs. J. E. Goldsberry as accompanist. The free event welcomes music lovers and soldiers at Camp Rucker and Napier Field.
Miss Madelyn Pearl Fleming and Aviation Cadet Richard K. Johnson, Erie residents, married April 6, 1943 at the Army Air Forces Advanced Flying School Napier Field Dothan Alabama. Ceremony at 7 pm in the Post Chapel with Lt. Charles K. Johnson officiating. Best man Daniel E. Rachel and matron of honor Mrs Harold C Rehm attended. Mrs Johnson is daughter of Homer W Fleming of Erie. Cadet Johnson is son of William H Johnson of Erie.
Grace Bahrenburg a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps is assigned to the Third General Hospital at Camp Rucker. The native New Yorker, educated at Mt Sinai and Columbia, balanced by bowling and archery, handles ward supervision and patient care while pursuing a BA. She lives with 57 nurses in the unit and receives more mail than most.
Rex Nowell entertained the Faye Askew Royal Ambassadors at his home on Monday afternoon with members including Sammy Stevens James Truesdale George Malone Thomas Stephenson and others plus Rev Sam Reeves director. After a business session a baseball game followed and refreshments were served. Alma Bracewell and Emily Fuller, Huntingdon College students, arrive today to visit Miss Bracewell's parents at 1901 W Main St.
Mrs W T Burkett entertained the Detbap chapter of the L D A at her home with a program directed by Mrs Will Beach. The event featured readings, poetry, a prayer, and a vocal duet. Delegates were elected for the conference to be held in Birmingham May 3 and 6, with several members listed among attendees and guests.
MONTEVALLO Third place in the 1943 national watercolor contest sponsored by Kappa Pi was won by Jane Flurry a senior art major at Alabama College from Dothan. Announcement by Mane B. Ryan editor of the Sketch Book of Kappa Pi. Her painting Wash Out depicts a Dothan scene. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Bruce Flurry of Dothan.
Mrs Raymond Spann hosted the Thursday Bridge Club semi monthly meeting attended by Mrs Charles McKeon Mrs Horace Hall Mrs Philp McLaughlin Mrs Henry Flowers Jr Mrs Flowers Crawford Mrs Quin Flowers Mrs Edward Crawford and Mrs Edward Wingate of Birmingham. High score went to Mrs Edward Crawford. Several weekend visitors are listed along with a club dance at Dothan Country Club and a Navy course graduate Ralph Howard Gehnarr.
The War Manpower Commission advised C. F. Anderson director for Alabama of the United States Employment Service that laundry workers in the Dothan area should not quit their jobs seeking more essential work without consulting the local US Employment Service.
The War Manpower Commission urges continuity in commercial laundries to support military needs. Dr. Aane stresses laundries aid to military establishments and urges workers to consult the United States Employment Service before leaving jobs. Anderson announces local registration for laundry jobs at the Dedhan office and notes open positions and referrals.
