Birthday Celebration for Ex-Servicemen's Children
A large turnout attended a birthday party at Mrs. J. J. Rooney’s home marking entry into the world war era. Fifteen candles crowned the cake as children including Billy Campbell and Mary Kate Folkes enjoyed games, punch, and prizes. Assisting hosts were several local women. Two young college women died in separate incidents. Jackie Ruth Youngblood, 20, of Magnolia Arkansas Agricultural College, was allegedly thrown under a train after an assault by Irving Eddington, who police say confessed. Evelyn Campbell, 22, a Stanford medical student, shot herself in James A Carey’s apartment after a campus romance allegedly soured.
