Bush ends 15 day fishing jinx on Maine vacation

Heaviest Rains Hit Dixon For A Decade

Heavy rainfall swamped Dixon with nearly five inches from Thursday to Friday, the most in 24 hours since June 25, 1978. The NWS logged 4.95 inches as the Dixon Sewage Treatment Plant saw five inches. the Tri County Animal Shelter flooded, with 74,000 gallons pumped out, but no animals lost. Groundbreaking for a 1.2 million six classroom addition to Nachusa Lutheran Home proceeded under a canopy despite the downpour. The project is funded by donations and a Kresge Foundation matching grant, with completion targeted for August 1990.

Lightning strike injures Sublette man in Rochelle hospital

A 20-year-old Del Monte field worker, Scott Johnson of Sublette, was struck by lightning at 12:20 a.m. about 142 miles east of Steward while in the fields and is listed in stable condition at Rochelle Community Hospital. He suffered high blood pressure and possible seizures but regained responsiveness. no burns were reported.
